February is National Heart Month, a time to take charge of your heart health and help prevent heart disease. This month encourages everyone to make small but impactful changes like eating well, staying active, understanding personal risk factors, and prioritising regular health check-ups. With heart disease and stroke remaining leading causes of death worldwide, National Heart Month is all about raising awareness, promoting education, and adopting healthier habits.
In the UK, heart disease continues to be a major health challenge, but we all have the power to make a difference. Simple lifestyle changes, better awareness, and timely medical advice can have a huge impact.
That’s where Heartlink Ealing Hospital Heart Support Group steps in.
Heartlink is a local charity led by heart patients, for heart patients and their families. Based in Southall, Greenford, Hanwell, Ealing, and West London, we provide support and advice to those living with heart conditions, especially those undergoing or recovering from hospital treatment. While clinical staff focus on medical care, Heartlink offers something equally vital, personal understanding and guidance from those who’ve been through the same journey.
We are deeply committed to raising awareness about heart disease risk factors within the community. By hosting educational workshops, health awareness events, and outreach campaigns, we help individuals identify and address common risks such as high blood pressure, poor diet, smoking, and lack of exercise. Our goal is to empower people with the knowledge they need to make healthier choices and reduce their chances of developing heart-related conditions.
Now is the perfect time to take action, because together, by keeping our hearts healthy we can help beat heart disease.

Heartlink Trustees and volunteers recently visited Southall’s largest Gurdwara, Sri Guru Singh Sabha, where they received a warm welcome. The visits focused on raising heart health awareness and training Gurdwara volunteers in CPR. Leading the sessions was Trustee Dr. Harmandeep Singh, alongside Dr. Parvinder Garcha, a Trustee and Committee Member at the Gurdwara.
On January 15th, Dr. Harman, with assistance from Ealing Hospital Cardiologist Dr. Jamie Kitt, demonstrated CPR and provided hands-on training to volunteers. This was paired with first aid lessons from local Scout leaders. Meanwhile, Heartlink ran a well-received information stall at the Gurdwara entrance, distributing leaflets and booklets.
On February 2nd, Dr. Harman and Heartlink Committee Member Sunny Chana spoke to a congregation of several hundred about heart health and recovery from major heart conditions. Dr. Garcha followed, explaining Heartlink's role. Heartlink volunteers also ran a busy stall, engaging with visitors and gaining new contacts and members. We were very pleased to be helped by Ealing Councillors Harbhajan and Ranjit Dheer who are key supporters.
While smoking is less common in the Sikh community, the Ealing Smokefree Service sparked strong interest, especially among younger people.
We are always looking for new members and helpers.
